Bluetongue virus (BTV) is a segmented double-stranded RNA virus (10 genome segments) belonging to the genus Orbivirus (family Sedoreoviridae, ICTV). Bluetongue is an infectious disease that is not typically transmitted by direct contact and is primarily vector-borne, transmitted mainly by biting midges of the genus Culicoides. Clinical signs may vary depending on the host species and viral strain, and can include fever, edema of the face and tongue, mucosal lesions, lameness, and in severe cases mortality. Cattle and other ruminants often present subclinical infections and may act as reservoirs of the virus.
Bluetongue Virus RT-qPCR Kit is designed for the in vitro detection of Bluetongue virus (BTV) RNA. The assay was designed to ensure high inclusivity for BTV and high exclusivity against non-target organisms. Thus, primers and probe sequences have very high homology (>95%) with a broad range of Bluetongue virus genome sequences, based on an extensive bioinformatic analysis with all reference data within the NCBI database at the time of design. Due to the inherent genetic variability and evolutionary dynamics of RNA viruses, it is not possible to guarantee the detection of all circulating or emerging strains. Furthermore, this kit was meticulously designed and validated to meet the rigorous criteria of a quantitative assay. However, it is important to note that the provided Positive Control is intended solely to verify assay performance and is not traceable to a quantitative reference standard. We recommend checking NZYtech website for the availability of a suitable Quantitative Standard for an accurate quantification. In alternative, commercially available nucleic acids standards can also be used.
This kit includes an Internal Extraction Control (IEC), provided as an optional control to monitor the efficiency of nucleic acid extraction and to detect potential PCR inhibition due to sample impurities. When added either during nucleic acid extraction or directly into the PCR reaction mix, the IEC assists in confirming that negative results are not due to extraction failure or presence of inhibitory substances. If required, a complementary kit for the detection of an endogenous gene of the host species from which the samples are extracted is available at NZYtech (see Vet, Food & Pharma). If you require further information or have a specific question about the detection profile of this kit, please send an e-mail to info@nzytech.com and our scientific team will answer your question. This kit is designed to be used by trained users in a suitable molecular biology laboratory environment.
