Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH; EC 1.1.1.1) is an enzyme occurring in many organisms facilitating the interconversion between primary or secondary alcohols and aldehydes or ketones, respectively, with the reduction of NAD+ to NADH. This enzyme requires the iron or zinc as cofactor. In humans and many other animals, they serve to break down alcohols which could otherwise be toxic; in yeast and many bacteria, some alcohol dehydrogenases catalyze the opposite reaction as part of fermentation. The enzyme is provided in 3.2 M ammonium sulphate.

Activity: 150 U/ml

Temperature and pH optimum/stability: The optimum pH and temperature are 8.5 and 25 °C, respectively.
