Tackling Sexual Health Screening Challenges in Laboratories and Diagnostic Centers

11 December, 2023

Labs and diagnostic centers face the challenge of providing comprehensive and affordable screening for pathogens associated with Women’s Health & Sexual Health. Lab Directors grapple with the need for fast and efficient sexual health diagnostics in a highly competitive landscape.

Labs and Diagnostic Centers play a key role in public health, responsible for delivering precise diagnostic testing. However, offering comprehensive Sexual Health screening services is complex. Lab Directors, overseeing overall lab performance, must find advanced yet cost-effective solutions that align with industry regulations and deliver conclusive results for critical sexual health concerns.

From more than 160 molecular diagnostic kits available in our portfolio, we showcase a small selection of our most sough-after kits for sexual health screening:

Neisseria gonorrhoeae qPCR KitNeisseria gonorrhoeae is a species of Gram-negative diplococci bacteria able to survive phagocytosis and to grow inside neutrophils. It causes the sexually transmitted genitourinary infection gonorrhea as well as other forms of gonococcal disease including disseminated gonococcemia, septic arthritis, and gonococcal ophthalmia neonatorum. Neisseria gonorrhoeae qPCR Kit is specifically designed for the in vitro detection of N. gonorrhoeae genomes, offering a broad detection profile while ensuring both inclusivity and exclusivity for this species. For life science research use.

Mycoplasma genitalium qPCR Kit: Mycoplasma genitalium is a sexually transmitted pathogenic bacterium that lives on the mucous epithelial cells of the urinary and genital tracts in humans. Specifically, it can cause urethritis in both men and women, cervicitis and pelvic inflammation in women. Designed for specific and inclusive in vitro detection of M. genitalium, Mycoplasma genitalium qPCR Kit features primers and probes with >95% homology to a diverse range of genomes, making it well-suited for research in the life sciences.

Chlamydia trachomatis qPCR KitChlamydia trachomatis is the causal agent of chlamydia, being the most common infectious cause of blindness and the most common sexually transmitted bacterium. Chlamydia trachomatis qPCR Kit is a life science research assay designed for the in vitro detection of C. trachomatis genomes, including all serovars A, B, Ba, C, D, E, F, G, I, K, K1, L2, L3, H and J. Chlamydia trachomatis qPCR Kit ensures broad yet specific in vitro detection, with primers and probes exhibiting >95% homology to diverse C. trachomatis genomes.

High-Risk HPV Multiplex Real-time PCR Kit, IVD: Papillomaviruses constitute a diverse group of DNA viruses with the ability to infect both the skin and mucous membranes of humans and animals. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is particularly significant, being implicated in over 99% of cervical cancers worldwide. More than 200 distinct types of HPV have been catalogued and classified as high-risk (HR HPV) or low risk (LR) for cervical cancer development. High-risk HPVs include types 16 and 18, responsible for a substantial ~75% of the most severe, cancerous lesions. Additional types of high-risk, such as HPV31, HPV33, HPV35, HPV39, HPV45, HPV51, HPV52, HPV56, HPV58, HPV59, HPV66, and HPV68, collectively contribute to over 90% of cervical adenocarcinomas. The High-Risk HPV Multiplex Real-time PCR Kit, IVD, supplies the essential reagents, enzymes, and oligonucleotides needed for qualitative multiplex detection of 14 High-Risk Human Papillomavirus types (HPV16, 18, 31, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68), ensuring its suitability for In Vitro Diagnostics.

Group B Streptococcus Real-time PCR Kit, IVD: The Group B Streptococcus Real-time PCR Kit, IVD, is a qualitative molecular assay specifically designed for In Vitro Diagnostics, enabling the swift identification of antepartum colonization of Group B Streptococcus (GBS, Streptococcus agalactiae) in pregnant women. GBS is the pathogen causing the most serious bacterial infections in newborns. This bacterium colonizes the gastrointestinal and the lower genital tract in 10 to 40% of pregnant women and there is a risk that the baby may become infected during delivery. GBS infection in newborns can lead to sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis.

There is a crucial balancing act a lab manager must make, which involves navigating budget constraints while implementing optimal solutions that ensure and enhance overall efficiency in Sexual Health screening. Moreover, maintaining the highest standards in sexual health diagnostics poses a constant concern, requiring a vigilant approach to industry regulations.

Our suite of Sexual Health screening products provides a tailored solution to this problem. Designed to enhance efficiency without compromising cost-effectiveness, our products empower labs to streamline operations effectively. Simultaneously, our kits are meticulously developed in strict adherence to industry regulations, offering a compliance-driven approach to sexual health diagnostics.
